Wolfpack Armory Disruptor 556k Suppressor: Compact, Nimble, And Reasonably Priced [REVIEW]

‘‘K” cans are compact suppressors, designed to be short, nimble, and maneuverable. This reduces the overall length of your weapon system, making it easier to handle inside structures and tight spaces.

However, physics never takes a holiday, so a smaller silencer will take a hit on sound suppression compared to a larger one. Everything’s a trade-off, and it’s a bargain that many operators leaving the wire and armed citizens wanting to defend their homes are willing to strike. That said, a short suppressor is still a suppressor, so it’ll still protect your hearing and those around you.

  • Caliber: 5.56mm
  • Length: 4.75 inches
  • Diameter: 1.6 inches
  • Weight: 7.8 ounces
  • MSRP: $559

Based in West Virginia, Wolfpack Armory specializes in building custom and high-performance AR rifles and pistols in various calibers, including 7.62x39mm. They’ve also added suppressors to their portfolio, with their Disruptor line. It includes standard and long 30-caliber cans — technically .358 cans, so they accommodate larger calibers like 9mm and .338 — as well as standard and K-sized 5.56mm-specific silencers. It’s that latter model that we’re reviewing here, the Disruptor 556K.

True to K-can form, the Disruptor 556K is a tidy package at 4.75 inches long and 1.6 inches in diameter, weighing just 7.8 ounces without a mount. The blast chamber is threaded 1.375×24 to accept industry-standard HUB mount adapters. The can comes with Wolfpack Armory’s low-profile Plan B HUB adapter, as well as their Night Howler Plan B flash hider that you can mount on your host — this is a nice touch and a $69 and $89 value, respectively. The silencer comes with a threaded endcap; it’s 1.125×28, so it’s compatible with various aftermarket endcaps if you decide to swap it out, for example for a flash hider endcap.

The Disruptor is machined from 17-4 stainless steel and is fully TIG-welded. There are four baffles in the K can; they’re traditional baffles but they’re clipped and vented. It’s full-auto rated with a minimum barrel length of 10.5 inches.

While the baffles are all welded, the suppressor is designed to be rebuilt and comes with a lifetime warranty. Wolfpack can re-core the baffles as needed.

We tested the Disruptor 556K on a 16-inch Foxtrot Mike rifle. The point of impact shift between unsuppressed and suppressed was approximately 2 MOA; group sizes didn’t appreciably change one way or another. Wolfpack’s Plan B accessories are nicely machined and worked well. When detaching and reattaching the can, it consistently returned to zero within about 0.25 MOA. Average muzzle velocity per our Garmin Xero C1 Pro changed by less than 10 fps.

As a K can, the little Disrupter wasn’t super quiet, but it delivered solid performance for its size. Wolfpack will be updating the endcap that ships with the suppressor to be wipe-compatible for additional sound mitigation as desired. We’d classify the gas blowback as moderate.

The Disrupter’s design is clean and understated, with good machining. Wolfpack ships a pair of spanner wrenches in the package, and there are convenient notches on the suppressor so you can comfortably crank on it. Since it’s fully welded, you can’t disassemble it for servicing, so you can soak it for a while or dump it in a sonic cleaner.

Available finishes include C-series Cerakote in black and flat dark earth, or raw heat-treated if you’re looking for extra sexy bling.

The Wolfpack Armory Disruptor 556K is compact and light, handling very well on short guns and 16-inchers too. It’s reasonably priced, with street prices likely even lower. It’s a solid choice for a defensive or duty weapon where handling is a key priority. And you can always opt for the standard-length Disrupter if you want to tip the scales toward more sound mitigation.
